2008 The Jam Factory, Adelaide

The role of artists in residence with the glass studio at the Jam Factory, Adelaide is both exciting and daunting. It is exciting because you work with great glass masters: Nick Mount, Deb Jone and Tom Moore. it is daunting because you work with great masters Nick Mount, Deb Jones and Tom Moore.
I have no formal dexterity in working with glass. I cannot blow glass, nor can I cold work it. The glass studio at Jam Factory invited me to work with them because whilst I have no training in the process of making glass, my interests in colour and geometry have a natural affinity with glass making.
The residency lasts for 2 weeks and during this time we will be producing a large body of vessels. All of the vessels will be symmetrical and transparent. The vessels are all generated from the same conical form. The idea is to develop a collection of these components so that they can be arranged chromatically. My intention is to build chords of colour through the layering of transparencies. I want to suggest the grandeur of a symphony through colour saturations and vibrations.
